So common search terms will include the following:

How do I …

Where do I …

What do I need to …

Top 10 things I will need to …

What are the best ways to …

etc.

We all have problems that need addressing. The search engines (especially Google) have now provided us with a system to instantly find solutions to issues we have with all types of problems. When you write your articles for your website you should be thinking:

“What problem or issue does this post solve”?

If your post does not solve an issue then what is the point of the post? Of course you may be just ranting about something that’s near to your heart or relevant to your industry, but, if you want to show up on the search engines for a key phrase, try to think of what the person would type in to find your post or more importantly, what does your post solve?

Pop along to the Google Keyword Tool and find some decent keywords and phrases. This will give you a good idea of what keywords to use for your blog post. Go for low to medium competition with a reasonable number of clicks per month (local clicks if you are a local niche market). Draw up your shortlist of keywords you would like to have in your article.

Other tools that are Free that you can use for keyword research include:

KeyWordSpy

UberSuggest

aHrefs (you will need to create a free account)

PRODUCTS – Humans use search engines to find products

Ok, so people out there have done their searching for solutions to their problems. Now they have a ‘product’ or ‘service’ in mind that solves this issue. The solution may be very technical. For example, their problem may of been that they wanted to buy a new television. They would normally search for things like:

Top 10 TV’s

What is the best TV to buy

Reviews of the best TV’s

Where do I buy the best TV

etc.

This is still in the problem phase of the search. The problem phase typically consists of about 5 or 6 searches. Gradually they are honing their search to the point where they have a PRODUCT that provides them with a solution to their problem. This could be a SERVICE of course.

“Now I know what I want – I want to find the best price or service”

Now they are looking for a business that will provide them with the product or service at either the best price or quality. You need to make sure that your website / blog post provides the solution to their problem and that your solution is keyworded for that specific problem.

Always write your content for the solution and audience and do not slip into the world of over keywording your blog post in order to try to rank better with the search engines. This will just make your post harder to read and ultimately will not rank. Remember to use a good Title Tag for your blog post that is partly keyworded and something that will attract attention.

Once you have your blog post(s) that solve your users problems and you also have products and services linked to those issues – you effectively have both ends of the spectrum covered.
